Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum To promote cultural equity between Taiwan's north and south and improve regional development, the Executive Yuan approved the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Taibao, Chiayi County, on December 15, 2004, as an Asian Art and Culture Museum. The Taipei Campus and Southern Branch serve as cultural landmarks that inspire art and equity across Taiwan. Designed by Kris Yao, the Southern Branch incorporates Chinese ink painting styles—nongmo, feibai, and xuanran—into a streamlined design with interconnected spaces and solids. Moyun Hall functions as an exhibition and archive space, while Feibai Hall provides a lobby, education area, restaurant, and shop. A central hallway, starting from a landscape bridge, winds toward a courtyard, embodying xuanran. The three curves symbolize China, India, and Persia, representing Asian cultural convergence. Zhimei Bridge is a 142-meter lake-spanning landscape bridge with two curves and no piers, minimizing impact on the lake. Its lightweight, S-shaped structure features a main arch, curved beams, and bracket floors, with 25 ribs creating rhythmic visual effects, open joints for visibility, and a 1-meter south tilt for a floating look. The park landscape offers leisure, flood prevention, and ecological balance, with scenic trails through Waterscape, Tropical, and Festival Gardens. Amenities like waterscapes, pavilions, and trails are placed on varied landforms near key viewpoints such as the Memorial Stone, Art Hill, Waterfront Stage, and Bird Viewing Platform.
